Trophies Old And New, Together Thanks To You

When visiting the stadium for the first home game of the season, and of course beyond, you may want to pay a special visit to the reception area of the club. As well as the great new additions in the stadium precinct – the Ronnie Moore speedway statue, and the new permanent home for the Foundation Stone, we also have something else to show off.

Thanks to your help and generosity, we raised the funds to make an exact-size replica of the FA Amateur Trophy. Won famously in 1963, Eddie Reynolds scored all our goals with his head in our 4-2 win over Sutton United at Wembley.

The Trophy is housed with Dave Willis’ full kit from the game, and as wonderful as that piece of history is, soon we hope to have the very shirt of the goal scorer himself, so keep a close eye on our social media and these pages for updates on that.

This is a fantastic addition to heritage displays and has been something of a personal quest for the WiSH volunteers to carry out what was once thought of by the late, great Mick Pugh. We can finally say that we fulfilled his dream of bringing the trophy home – albeit in replica form.

Alongside the FA Trophy display is another from more recent times. The League Two Playoff success in May is also celebrated, and the exact trophy can be seen with some other unique pieces.

Two great events, some 63 years apart, have been brought together for all to enjoy.

As you can see from the images here, the work carried out this past week by our team was done with great care, and again thanks to all that donated to help make this happen.
