Our Memorial Bench is now in place and ready for all to visit. This is something that the WiSH team have worked hard with the club to make available. The bench has been installed on the newly created memorial ring (War Memorial Site) and is one of only four benches permitted there.

At the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Plough Lane, there is a plaque (pictured here) on the stadium wall, which, via a QR code, will give details on how to visit the bench. We are sure that all those who want to pay respects to loved ones who are no longer with us will find this a very suitable and peaceful area.

Access is directly off the A3, and the address is Richardson Evans Memorial Playing Fields, 2 Friars Avenue, SW15 3DU (see map below). This is where Wimbledon Old Centrals played their first match in 1889, and the clubhouse there now will also have a WiSH Y&B Heritage Plaque installed commemorating the start of our history.

WiSH continues to work with the Commons Management Team to bring a dedicated sports heritage walking trail around the common, celebrating all of the different sports’ unique history created there (target date 2026).

Mick Pugh
All at AFC Wimbledon will be saddened to learn that Mick passed away last Saturday, having suffered serious illness for several years with courage, positivism and his unique brand of humour coupled with bloody-mindedness.
A Wimbledon fan for most of his life, Mick was active in many aspects of the club, from sponsoring junior teams to being Chairman of Wimbledon Old Players Association (WOPA), co-founder of WiSH volunteering for over 50 years across so many areas of the club.
He wrote many heartfelt tributes to former players, volunteers and fans for the programme so it is only fitting that there will be a full tribute to him in a future issue.
But for now, let’s remember his indomitable spirit, humour and influence on the club he was so proud of.
A true Womble.
